Migraine Aura Art

In a post on the Migraine blog, ‘Patterns,’ Oliver Sacks wrote about the repetitive geometric nature of the visual effects experienced by some migraine sufferers — “fortification patterns,” zig-zags, swirls.

In his book “Migraine,” first published in 1970, Dr. Sacks presented a series of paintings depicting the visual phenomena various patients experienced during migraine auras. The paintings, he wrote, “are attempts at literal reproductions of the phenomena; they are not meant to be symbolic.”

Sacks  himself has suffered from migraines most of his life.
